One of my good mates is speaking at this. If you’re available, check it out. :)

Update from YACVic

THE TANGLED WEB: BEYOND AN INTERNET FILTER
newmatilda.com presents a national series of public forums about the internet regulation debate in Australia.

The Federal Government’s proposal to block internet sites with a mandatory filter has drawn overwhelming opposition from voices across politics and civil society. So what are the real questions for policy-makers?

These forums explore the ethical, social and political questions raised by government regulation of the internet. With the growing intersection between technology, politics and media, how do existing and proposed classification regimes measure up? Is filtering inevitable? Or are there better ways to regulate the world wide web?

SPEAKERS:
Senator Scott Ludlam, the Australian Greens
Michael Flood, Sociologist
Colin Jacobs, Electronic Frontiers Australia

WHEN:
Monday April 27th, 6.30pm
WHERE:
ACMI Cinemas
Federation Square
Flinders Street, Melbourne

Tickets for this event are $5. RSVP is essential: enquiries@newmatilda.com [Please inc: Melbourne Forum in the subject line]

MIND THE GEN GAP
Working Together to Meet Workforce Challenges.
The Community Services and Health Industry Skills Council (CS&HISC), the recognised national advisory body on the skill and workforce development requirements of these industries, invites you to challenge your perceptions, outlook and viewpoints by jumping over the generational gap and seeing life from a different platform to enhance reform challenges and workforce development!

• Does your organisation currently undertake any formal workforce development?
• Do you involve younger generational employees in this process?
• Does your organisation have problems with staff retention, especially Gen Y employees?
• Would your organisation benefit from harnessing your workforce and planning views to meet the current and future needs of your organisation?
Would your organisation benefit from knowing the answers to these questions from those who have been in your situation before and have developed the right outcomes for future progress? Then this event is ideal for your organisation.

The CS&H ISC is inviting managers and Gen Y employees in the Community Services and Health Industries to come together to explore workforce challenges we are facing with this generational mix and to create solutions to improve workforce planning.

GRAFFITI LAWS: ONE YEAR ON GRAFFITI MONITORING FORUM 2009
In April 2008 the Graffiti Prevention Act (2007) passed into law, which saw the introduction of new offences including possessing `prescribed graffiti implements’ and new stop and search powers for police.

A year later, Youthlaw, Victoria’s state-wide community legal centre for young people under the age of 25, is holding a forum to hear from young people, police, local councils, artists, community lawyers and youth workers about how the laws are being implemented and to better understand how they are playing out on the street.

The forum is to be held:
Wednesday 8th April 2009
from 10am to 12:30pm
in the Conference Room, Neighbourhood Justice Centre,
241 Wellington St, Collingwood

Following on from the forum a progress monitoring report will be prepared and given to government and other interested stakeholders based on the findings.

For more information or to register your interest please contact Tiffany Overall, Human Rights and Advocacy Officer on (03) 9611 2422 or email on tiffany@youthlaw.asn.au
